Nico Wilkinson, Betrayal Seldom Comes From Your Enemies, Part of The Labyrinth Beneath Your Feet series, 2025, Multimedia Sculpture, 12” x 12”

Based on the text in the artist book The Labyrinth Beneath Your Feet, this piece depicts the minotaur, Asterius, sitting in a hallway of open mouths, tangled in red yarn. In the myth, Theseus is sent into the labyrinth with a length of yarn, a gift to him from Asterius’ sister, Ariadne, so that Theseus might find and kill Asterius without getting lost in the labyrinth himself. The piece is a reflection on how those who are closest to us can cause us the most harm in a pandemic world, and the loneliness of living in a different world than those around you.
